There is nothing more precious or cherished than the artwork of a child. As parents we place them on our refrigerators. Teachers prominently display them in classrooms and contests for countless causes use them in local, state and national calendars, websites and collectibles.
Children's artwork provides a window to their view of a world shaped by adults. Their insightful innocence, unbiased interest and unencumbered ideas offer a much different point of view than adult artwork that conveys more themes of money,
That's why the Foothills Sun-Gazette has begun its first Design An Ad program, as part of its continuing commitment to inform and educate youth through the Newspapers in Education (NIE) program.
Local businesses that participate will sponsor a quarter page where local school children will design an advertisement drawn for their business above the business's logo. All of the sponsors' logos and their student-designed ads will be displayed in a special section of the Sun-Gazette in the Feb. 27 edition.
This is the latest project in the Sun-Gazette's NIE program which publishes four student-based, informational sections on different topics through the year. The Sun-Gazette is proud to help promote reading and writing in our schools in the hopes that every child will continue to grow their interest in reading for the rest of their life.
For more information on the Design An Ad program, call the Sun-Gazette office at 592-3171 and ask for Valeri or Tracey.
