If there is anyone who is proud of the Woodlake community and the students it produces, it is Robert and Jackie Gröeber of Three Rivers. They have stepped forward to volunteer their time, energy, vehicles and finances in an effort to cheer on the students, schools and community.
The couple does not hesitate to speak frankly about a little issue known as “Tiger Pride.” To the embarrassment of his children, extended family and friends, Robert often dresses in full Tiger pride regalia, complete with hat, when cheering on his children and supporting their accomplishments. Jackie's Tiger Pride goes back to her high school days: she remembers trying to participate in everything possible at WHS. She played volleyball, was a cheerleader, was involved in choir and band and was even Class President.
Robert and Jackie married on March 26, 1986 in Three Rivers. The couple loves to visit Alberta, Canada, Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico.
The couple has two children, Travis, 21and Chelsea, 19 both are WHS grads.
While Jackie attended only Three Rivers and Woodlake schools before leaving for college, Robert attended seven elementary schools and two high schools before heading off to University of Redlands. Nonetheless, he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and then his MBA from CSU Fullerton in 1988. Jackie also graduated from University of Redlands with a Bachelor's in Psychology, a Master's in Counseling from CSU Fullerton and received her Ph.D. in Psychology from United States International University.
The Gröebers have both had several jobs - all of them interesting. Currently Jackie has a private psychology practice and instructs foster parents, teachers, nurses and other mental health professionals. Robert is currently employed by Visalia Unified School District in Administrative Services.
Robert has volunteered his time with the CA Municipal Treasurer's Association, (CMTA), holding every office at one time or another; he is a member of the CA Society of Municipal Finance Officers, (CSMFO), Association of CA School Administrators (ACSA), and the CA Association of School Business Officials, (CASBO) and a former member of the Three Rivers Municipal Advisory Committee. Robert is a lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Clare's Mission Catholic Church in Three Rivers. He is also a member of the Downtown Visalia Rotary Club.
Jackie was named the Three Rivers Volunteer of the Year in 2007. She and her sisters are known for singing and performing together. Jackie is the music director at Three Rivers Presbyterian Church. She would rather read one hundred “escapist” fiction books than one non-fiction book. And, if you've seen it, you understand why, as a psychologist, her least favorite movie is, “What About Bob?”
Robert lists his favorite pastimes as fishing hunting and outdoor sports, but we know that nothing gets him fired up like working the Chain Gang at a WHS Football game, which he has done since he moved here in 1991. He also served as Treasurer of the WHS Football Boosters.
Robert and Jackie could always be spotted in the bleachers at WHS Volleyball, Girls Soccer, Boys Basketball, Golf, Cross Country, Baseball and Swimming events when Travis and Chelsea were participating, supporting their own children, as well as everyone else's children with a warm smile or a hug when it was all finished. It didn't take long until everyone on the team(s) knew the Gröebers. Now they are looking forward to seeing the fourth generation of WHS Tigers as nephews Eddie and Carlos take the field.
Robert and Jackie have taken fifteen College Study Trips, using their own cars and gasoline to transport WHS students so students could experience a college campus personally. They traveled along with the WHS Choir to the annual Magic Mountain Choir Festival, supporting the students with loud applause from the audience. Their support of the fine arts programs at WHS, be it choir, band, art or drama have not been in words alone. They have participated with their physical presence whenever possible and their financial contributions to each and every fundraiser. This included a trip to London with the WHS Band.
They have been very active in establishing Club Volleyball for Woodlake and Three Rivers students. They have been classroom volunteers, coaches, a part of band, football and volleyball boosters, taught voice lessons, walked many miles for the American Cancer Society's 24 Hour Relay For Life, helped with a Habitat For Humanity house, taught at Teen Survival Day; served as PTA President and interviewed WHS Seniors. The community of Woodlake cannot thank them enough for this and more. Robert and Jackie truly exemplify Tiger pride.
