The Tulare County Office of Educationís annual College Night event returns to the Visalia Convention Center from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Last year, the event was held at the International Agri-Centerís Heritage Complex in Tulare.
This year, more than 75 university and college representatives will be in attendance to answer questions about entrance requirements, tuition and housing at their institutions.
Tulare County College Night is designed for high school students and parents who want to learn more about preparing for and applying to colleges. High school juniors and seniors and their parents will be given access to the event at 6:00 p.m. so that they can spend more time with the representatives. Younger high school students and their parents will be admitted at 6:30 p.m. as in years past.Ý
In addition to the college representatives, students and parents can visit a variety of informational presentations on topics ranging from admission testing and prerequisite courses to financial aid and scholarships. Select presentations will be offered in Spanish.
Students will also be able to pick up instructions on applying for the annual Tulare County College Night Scholarship, which provides one student $1,000 per year for up to four years, based on academic and personal accomplishments.
Applications will be available on-line through the College Night website www.tcoe.org/collegenight in late September, or through Tulare County high school counselors. The application deadline for the College Night scholarship is February 2, 2009.
Students and parents may also utilize the web site for links to university, financial aid and test preparation sites.Ý
College Night is coordinated by the Tulare County Office of Education, but generously supported by numerous local service clubs, businesses and high schools.
Community support not only helps with the cost of the event, but supports the College Night Scholarship fund.

Tulare County College Night is complemented by an event designed specifically for middle school students ń COOL Night (College Offers Opportunities for Life), which will be held in Visalia and Porterville March 3 and March 31, 2009, respectively.Ý
ěThe College Night committee does an outstanding job of bringing higher education resources to thousands of Tulare County students each year,î says Tulare County Superintendent of Schools Jim Vidak. ěThe event is a great collaboration between parent volunteers, teachers, college representatives and community supporters.îÝ
