Rocky Hill School in Exeter will be holding its Annual Fall Garden Work Day in the Life Lab at Rocky Hill School on Saturday, October 4th from 8 a.m. until noon.
Volunteers are needed to help with fall garden chores such as weeding, cleaning, repairing garden bed frames, roto-tilling garden beds, planting and pruning.
The Life Lab at Rocky Hill School is a living garden laboratory that offers Exeter Public School students in grades three through five the opportunity to cultivate their own fruits and vegetables.Ý
The garden setting also allows students experience first-hand the life cycles of common garden plants and insects; and to observe the effects of weather and wildlife on the garden environment.
This hands-on learning experience helps make science fun for many students who have trouble with the subject.
In addition to more than 30 garden beds, the Life Lab contains a variety of fruit trees and a drought-tolerant butterfly and hummingbird garden, complete with a small pond.Ý
Rocky Hill classrooms are encouraged to adopt a garden bed for fall planting to allow their class to experience the joy of growing and eating the fruits of their labors.
Refreshments will be provided to all volunteers!Ý
We encourage High School students who have volunteer hours to complete and local Scout troops to attend.Ý
The Rocky Hill classroom with the most volunteers present at the workday will win a pizza party for their class!
Please come out and support your local school at the Life Lab Workday on Saturday, October 4th ñ we are fortunate to have this valuable resource available for the children of Exeter.
Cash donations towards the maintenance of the Life Lab will be gladly accepted, as are in-kind donations of plants or garden tools.Ý
Questions should be directed to Jane Kleinkramer at 592-3938 or Rocky Hill Principal Jessica Bradshaw at 592-5490.
