With the help of an army of volunteers, the annual Sequoia Union Elementary School Carnival will be held 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.
Sequoia Union, a small kindergarten through eighth grade country school, stages the carnival every fall as a way to help fund the ìClassroom on the Goî program, which ensures educational field trips for the students. The carnival is the schoolís biggest annual fundraiser. Sequoia Union Elementary School is located at 23958 Avenue 324 in Lemoncove. The public is invited to attend.
The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner ó a hearty spread of deep-pit beef, beans, salad, bread and dessert. The carnival booths open at 6 p.m., promising plenty of fun for students and adults alike.
Some of the booths include: Rock Wall, Twin Spin, an 18-foot slide, a dunk tank, a cake walk, bingo and the Football Toss. Each classroom is in charge of at least one booth, with shifts run by parents and volunteers.
For those who prefer to browse the silent auction items, the baskets will surely impress. Artfully arranged with products donated by students and parents, each classroom pulls together to create a themed basket. This year, look for: Movie Night, Ice Cream Delight, Taste of Italy, and Gourmet Baking, among many, many others. Also available during the silent auction are weekend getaways and Fresno State athletics tickets.
Raffle tickets will be on sale until Sept. 26, so find a student or parent and buy one or several for $1 each. Raffle prizes are also exciting, and include a mountain bike, two tickets to Disneyland with a hotel stay, a Wii, $100 cash, an iPod and much more.
