Beauty and the Beast is a lavish production with a large cast of 35. Richard Robinson of Lindsay is directing the beautiful music of this show. Richard is a long-time musical director for Lindsay High Shows. Costumes for the show are among the most expensive of any Broadway production. Costumer for the show is Linda Jarrett of Tulare, whose son plays LeFou in the show. Choreography is complex and delightful, and is being designed and taught by Janet Richey of Porterville.

Adults from Porterville and Lindsay, and students from Lindsay, Strathmore, Tulare, and Visalia are part of the cast. Many strong bonds of friendship were created as a result of working together on such a big production.

For the first time in a Lindsay Drama Club production, there will be a special performance of Beauty and the Beast for the deaf. On Friday, December 5 two talented signers, Victoria Graves and Clara Cabrera, will translate the entire show for the deaf. Victoria works as a signer for Lindsay High School, and Clara is a senior at the school. Deaf and hearing patrons will be able to enjoy the show together.

Beauty and the Beast is the story of a young beautiful young girl named Belle, whose eccentric inventor father, Maurice, stumbles into a castle after getting lost in the woods and chased by wolves. The castle belongs to a prince who has been cursed with the hideous form of a beast for his unkindness to an enchantress. If he can find love before the last petal of the rose falls, the curse will be reversed.

ÝMaurice is captured by the Beast and imprisoned in the dungeon. When he does not return home, Belle seeks him in the woods and finds the castle and her father in a locked cell. She pleads with the beast to release her father and eventually offers to take his place if he is released. The Beast agrees and Belle must remain in his house forever.

ÝWith the help of his servants, who are also cursed and are slowly transforming into household objects like candlesticks and clocks, the Beast tries to change his beastly ways to win the affection of Belle, but his anger always gets in the way.

ÝMeanwhile, the town braggart, Gaston, has set his sights on marrying Belle, even though she is not the least bit interested in him. When he finds that she is being held captive by the Beast, he sets out to kill and Beast and save her. What happens next will be revealed on opening night. Donít miss it.
